Line Betting Explained
Line betting explained | Kruzey is a type of sports betting in which you stake money on a team to win a game. A bookmaker sets a margin, or “line”, based on his or her handicap of the team. You place your bet on Team A to win by more than 10.5 points, or on Team B to come within that margin. Each outcome has an equal chance of winning, but the margin is set so that both outcomes have the same odds.
It is a form of spread betting
The process of spread betting involves placing bets on sports events. These wagers are paid out depending on the final result and are different from parimutuel betting or fixed-odds betting. In the UK, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) regulates financial spread betting as a financial product. In most countries, the profit from financial spread betting is taxable, but losses are tax-deductible.
In spread betting, both sides of a game are given an equal chance to win. This allows sports books to offer larger payouts when both teams have equal betting action. Point spreads are used in baseball, basketball, and football. But point spreads can be used in other sports as well.
It involves betting on a game that seems to have a clear winner
In line betting, you bet on a game that seems to have definite winners and losers. For example, in the 2012 NBA Finals, the Miami Heat were expected to win against the Oklahoma City Thunder. You would bet on the game to win by a certain amount of points, which is the NBA spread. To win, the Miami Heat must win by four or more points, and the Oklahoma City Thunder must win by three points or less.
However, you should be careful when line betting. The sportsbook does not like to see a large amount of money on a certain side. If all the bets on that side win, the sportsbook will lose money. Therefore, to compensate for this, they shift the lines, making the other side more attractive. In this way, the Chiefs, who were originally the favorite, were underdogs, which led to their odds moving down.
