Greatest Legendary Indian Cricketers Of All Time
The Indian Cricket team has given the world a lot of its choicest cricketers. From Sachin Tendulkar to M.S. Dhoni, the world has seen some of its finest cricketers born in India. The world cup cricket, the test series and the ODI have all observed India and its players break multiple records.
Let us see some of the best Indian players:
Sachin Tendulkar
There is no list of the greatest Indian cricketers that won’t have Sachin’s name on it. He has created and broken more records than any other cricketer has ever dreamed of in their career. One of the few players to have scored more than 30,000 runs in international cricket, he is the only player to have scored 100 centuries for his country. He was the highest scorer of the 1996 and 2003 World T20 and has received countless awards in his cricketing career. These include the Arjuna Award, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, Padma Shri and the Padma Vibhushan Award. Moreover, up until today, he is the youngest and the first-ever sportsperson to receive the Bharat Ratna Award, the highest civilian award any Indian can receive.
Kapil Dev
He was the captain of the Indian team when it won the T20 World Cup in the year 1983. Kapil Dev was one of the greatest all-rounders who retired in 1994, holding a record of the highest number of wickets taken in Test Cricket. Test cricket has never had a player with more than 400 wickets and 5,000 runs. This record has made him one of the greatest all-rounders to have played the game.
Rahul Dravid
Rahul Dravid is considered one of the greatest batsmen to ever step on the field. He became the first and only player to score a century in all ten Test-playing countries after completing his century against Bangladesh in 2004. With 210 catches, he became the holder of the record for most catches taken by a player who is not the wicket-keeper.
Sunil Gavaskar
Gavaskar has set a record for being the only batsman to score the most Test runs and Test centuries. He has made his mark as one of the greatest opening batsmen in cricket history. He was the holder of the record for scoring 34 Test centuries that he held for almost two decades before Sachin Tendulkar broke it. In 2012, Gavaskar was awarded the Col CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award for his career.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni
M.S. Dhoni – one of the best finishers. With him as the captain, India won the ICC World T20, the CB Series, the Asia Cup, as well as the ICC Champions Trophy. In the final of the 2011 World T20 Cricket Cup, Dhoni scored 91 not out off 79 balls and took India to victory, for which he got the Man of the Match title. Dhoni became the first captain to win all the three ICC trophies in June 2013, when India defeated England in the final of the Champions Trophy in England.
