What Is So Innovative About Wing Foiling Now A Days?

Wing foiling is a water sport motioned by the wind developed from “Wind Surfing,” “Kitesurfing,” and “Surfing.” It is also known as Wing Surfing, a popular sport among the young. Riders have to stand on a board holding with a wing directly. The board moves across the water by generating upward force and sideways propulsion. Windsurfing was invented in 1981 by Jim Drake. The concept of the invention of the Wing was based on the symmetrical shape of a flying fish. In 1986 a new concept called wind weapon was invented that allows riders to jump high with strong winds but did not get as popular commercially as the Drake wing. The use of Drake wings is not only restricted to water sports but is also used on snow, beach, or land.

Drake wings include three popular variants for the development of Wing Foil such as “Skate Sails,” “Kite Wings,” and “Wind Skates.” The popular form of Windsurfing includes foil with the board that allows planning with small wings around 8 knots, giving riders a better experience. The sizes of wings varied between 2.2 m2 to 8 m2. Wing surfing companies have created an organization named “Global Wingsports Association (GWA).” In 2021 the organization started a world tour with two program categories, “surf-race” and “surf-freestyle.”

Wing surfing has several similarities with “Wind-surfing” and “Kite-surfing.” In Wing foiling, the wind is controlled directly, while in Kitesurfing and Windsurfing, the wind is controlled through a line. Wing surfing follows the same functionality as kite surfing. Windsurfing is a variation of Kitesurfing, applied in a location where kite surfing is not allowed. Wing foiling is very easy to learn than kite foiling. The difficulty of wing foiling is learned the foil board riding.

Riders should practice board riding in slow waves or behind a boat to reduce the risks, and riders will be experts in wing foiling. People under 30 are more fascinated by Wing surfing as it gives a wonderful experience and adventure. It requires a few days to some weeks to learn Wing foiling completely. The time and expertise of learning wing foiling depend on background experience, the conditions of learning the sport, and the quality of equipment used. Using simple equipment will help to learn Wing foiling as early as possible. Wing foils are very easy to set up as it does not require worrying about kite lines.
